Golden : Gesso & Ground

Golden

Gesso can be thought of as the bridge between the support and the paint. GOLDEN Gesso is designed to penetrate supports and provide a surface to which paint can adhere. Proper preparation with GOLDEN Gesso increases the life span of artwork. Golden Gesso is formulated to be flexible and is highly pigmented for greater opacity.

White and Black Gessos : Ready-to-use formulations for painting on most surfaces. They are flexible and can be applied in thin layers to conform to a variey to textures without cracking. For oil painting, we recommended that at least three layers of gesso. Gesso can be mixed with acrylic colours to produce a range of colored grounds.

Sandable Hard Gesso : Formulated with 100% acrylic dispersion polymer. It can be sanded to provide surfaces that are smoother and more even than those created using regular gesso. It is slightly more absorbent than regular Golden gesso. It should only be used on rigid supports due to a tendency to crack when flexed, but can be sanded to a highly polished surface.

Absorbent Ground : This acrylic liquid surfacing medium dries to a high absorbency, porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it allows for raw canvas-like staining techniques and watermedia applications with acrylic or watercolor paint. Lightfast, permanent, and flexible. Pastel Ground : Apply this translucent acrylic ground to paper, board, or any surface you wish. It provides a rough, "gritty" tooth, making it perfect for use with pastel, graphite, chalk or charcoal, and for the preparation of canvas and other supports for pastels. It can be blended with Golden Acrylic colors for colored grounds, or with Golden Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel to increase tooth. Click here for an instructional vid

Golden Silverpoint / Drawing Ground : A liquid acrylic used for the preparation of supports for drawing media. The ground is designed for the achievement of fine detailed lines on a permanent, lightfast, flexible ground. Silverpoint / Drawing Ground is ideal for use with metal styli or other drawing tools. It is formulated with 100% acrylic fluid polymer emulsion. Designed for thin applications only. When applied too thickly the film may crack upon curing. A single thin coat is typically sufficient.

May be applied by brush or spray applied to paper, primed canvas, wood or any surface that will accept a water-based coating. The most common substrate for metal point drawing is heavy weight hot pressed watercolor paper. Click here for an instructional video.

Golden Digital Grounds : These products will turn just about any relatively flat surface into a printable surface. These mediums can be used on acrylic skins, metal, specialty papers, and more. Printed images come out clear and crisp, with great colour. Click here for an instructional video.
